Week #8
Posted by Trixter on February 19, 2006
Did some exercise, but had a very stressful week that I coped with by self-medicating with food. So, we have the puzzling results of:
- 222 pounds
- 28% body fat
- Blood Pressure 125/79
2 pound increase, 2% body fat loss. Joy. I think my days of dieting only are just about over… I can feel my metabolism slowing down to cope with the lack of calories I’m ingesting.

My friend, you are not actually dieting. I think you know that.

I’m confused — are you saying I’m not really making an effort, or that I’m making all this up, or what?

Maybe he’s just trying to say that you’re gonna die one way or another so you might as well gorge yourself now. Or maybe that’s what I’m saying. :-)

If the previous weeks postings are accurate, you are being given fattening foods which are being brought home for you, and you are not consistently sticking with low calorie or even your intended meal plan.
What you’re doing right now is definitely an important first step, starting to take inventory of your intake, your body’s statistics and other details. This prevents you from, say, unabashedly eating an entire pint of Ben and Jerry’s and have no feedback on it. But you are definitely being given fattening foods that are not on your diet, and it really seems like you’re not being taken seriously on this endeavor.
So what I’m saying here is that you’re not specifically dieting in the form of changing your food intake to reflect a new, changed style of eating. It sounds like you’ve inventoried your statistics and have started cutting back on foods.

You are completely misreading that one post. I allow myself one indiscretion per week. Donuts was one week; take-out was last week. I was only “given” the donuts; the rest I have taken.
I’m still edging downward, but I don’t like the way I’ve been feeling. Exercise is very soon to follow; I think I’ve lost enough that my knees aren’t bothering me any more (although my back *is*, but that’s probably lack of sleep).
